What is Auricular Acupuncture?

Auricular Acupuncture uses specially placed thin needles, or electrical impulses, to enhance the natural healing ability of the body.

How does Auricular Acupuncture work?

Imagine the ears area switchboard to the brain. When an acupuncture point (the ear has over two hundred acupuncture points) is stimulated or sedated, either by needle or electrical impulse, electrical impulses are transmitted to the brain. From there the brain sifts and sorts out the impulses and transmits them to the targeted anatomical area. For example, if you treat the liver acupuncture point the liver will be treated.

There are over two hundred acupuncture points on the ear relating to either parts of the body; liver, kidney, heart, etc, specific functions; raising/lowering blood pressure, relieving toothache, controlling appetite, etc, or specific conditions; allergies, asthma, hepatitis.

Is it painful, will it hurt?

There may be some initial discomfort, but it should not be painful. Some acupuncture points will be more active, more in need of treatment; they will also be more sensitive. I endeavor to make your treatment as painless as possible. Acupuncture should not hurt.

How many treatments will I need?

That will vary from person to person. And will depend on things like severity of the condition, how long you have had it, your age, your level of fitness and diet. However for most conditions there needs to be a minimum of four treatments.

Ear Acupuncture is a progressive treatment, so you should see improvements from week to week. So it is only at the end of four treatments are we able to determine how well the condition has responded. If there has been no improvement of the condition after four weeks, then the treatment will stop. If the condition has responded then we will negotiate where the treatment goes from there.
